Equinor Energy Pursues a Patent on the Prediction of Reservoir Fluid Properties from Mud-Gas Data

U.S. patent application, US20220163503, discloses techniques for the prediction of reservoir fluid properties of a hydrocarbon reservoir fluid, such as density, saturation pressure, formation volume factor, and the gas-oil ratio of the reservoir fluid. To predict the reservoir fluid properties, a model is generated by selecting a subset of available reservoir samples based on a degree of biodegradation of the samples, generating an input data set comprising measured or predicted mud-gas data; and generating a model using the input data. The application of this technique allows a continuous log of the selected property to be generated using mud-gas data collected during the well-drilling process. The figure below shows the mud-gas analysis tool.

Novartis Seeks a Patent for Factor XI Antibodies

U.S. patent application, US20220162339, relates to intravenous or subcutaneous administration of a pharmaceutical composition containing an anti-FXI antibody for the treatment of thromboembolic disorder by inhibiting the FXI and/or FXIa-mediated activation of FIX.

Abbott Wants to Patent a Cradle Apparatus

U.S. patent application, US20220163552, discloses a cradle apparatus for receiving containers of liquid and draining or pumping the liquid to another location such as to an onboard tank of a diagnostic analyzer. The apparatus has a unique sliding lock that allows only containers having matching keycaps to be inserted into the cradle and drained which thereby reduces the chance of connecting the wrong container to the wrong fluid line. The figure below illustrates an example container inserted into an example cradle for draining the contents of the container.

Medtronic Eyes a Patent for an Implantable Medical Electrical Stimulation Device

U.S. patent application, US20220161037, discloses an implantable medical electrical stimulation device. The device includes a planar housing with an array of piezoelectric transducers to receive energy signals from an external device and transduce the received energy signals into electrical power and an electrode to deliver neurostimulation therapy. The figure below illustrates the implantable medical device having a piezoelectric transducer with a domed receiving surface.

Roche Seeks to Patent Cancer Prognosis

U.S. patent application, US20220165362, discloses a method for assessing the risk of mortality of a cancer patient. The method includes the selection and monitoring of patients for clinical trials and then predicting a treatment response to therapy in a patient which is based on multiple parameters including the level of albumin in serum or plasma, the ratio of lymphocytes to leukocytes in the blood, the urea nitrogen level in serum or plasma, aspartate or alanine aminotransferase enzymatic activity level in serum or plasma and eastern cooperative oncology group (ECOG) performance status.

Boston Scientific Files a Patent for an Endoluminal Device with a Retractor System

U.S. patent application, US20220160222, relates to a device for performing endoscopic surgery for operatively treating gastrointestinal disorders. The device includes an endoscopic surgical suite having a reversibly-expandable retractor, a tubular member, a chamber formed by a plurality of flexible elements comprising first and second expanding retractor elements and first and second lower retractor elements, and a retractor actuator. The figure below illustrates the endoluminal device.

Merck Aims to Patent Bluish-Black Effect Pigments for a Liquid-Crystal Medium

U.S. patent application, US20220162449, relates to effect pigments exhibiting a deep black body color and a blue interference color. Each pigment comprises a synthetically produced transparent dielectric flake-form substrate which has per se a green interference color and a refractive index n of greater than 1.5, a layered structure consisting of a first layer composed of hematite and/or goethite, and a second layer comprising magnetite, on the flake-form substrate located on top of the first layer which is located directly on the substrate. The pigments are particularly useful for decorative and automotive applications.

PayPal Wants a Patent for Using Cloned Accounts to Track Attacks on User Accounts

U.S. patent application, US20220166796, discloses a method for utilizing cloned accounts to track activities of bad actors on compromised user accounts. The method includes detecting a user login attempt for the user account from a client computing device, routing the user to the cloned user account upon determining that the user is not the legitimate user and performing an analysis of the interaction between the user and the cloned user account in which the user is released back to the real account when the user is determined to be legitimate based on the analysis.

Apple Aims To Patent a Keyboard with a Touch Sensor and Illumination

U.S. patent application, US20220164036, discloses a keyboard with a touch sensor and illumination. The keyboard has keys overlapped by a touch sensor. The keyboard has key sensor circuitry and touch sensor circuitry for detecting keypress input and touch sensor input. The keyboard includes an outer layer of fabric that has openings that are arranged to form alphanumeric characters. Light sources may emit light that passes through the openings and illuminates the alphanumeric characters. The figure below illustrates an illuminated structure of a keyboard key.

Intel Seeks a Patent for Using an Automatic Machine Learning Policy Network for Parametric Binary Neural Networks

U.S. patent application, US20220164669, describes a method for receiving a plurality of binary weight values for a binary neural network sampled from a policy neural network comprising a posterior distribution conditioned on a theta value. An error of forward propagation of the binary neural network may be determined based on a training data and the received plurality of binary weight values. A respective gradient value may be computed for the plurality of binary weight values based on a backward propagation of the binary neural network. The figure below illustrates an automatic machine learning policy network for a parametric binary neural network.

IBM Aims to Patent a Method for Executing a Augmented Voice Command Based on Selective Sound Inclusion from the Surroundings

U.S. patent application, US20220165260, discloses a method for executing any voice command by an augmented reality based on selective sound inclusion from the surroundings. The method includes identifying a plurality of sounds from a plurality of transducers to a smart speaker device, selecting the sounds based on selection and deselection history of historical information, and executing an augmented voice command generated based on the selection. The figure below illustrates executing the augmented voice command based on a selective sound inclusion.

Microsoft Seeks a Patent for Providing Local Recommendations Based on Images of Consumable Items

Microsoft recently patented a revolutionary technology to provide users with local recommendations based on images of consumable items, making them find the perfect product more effortless than ever! U.S. patent application, US20220164853, describes a method for determining a food item from a photograph and a corresponding restaurant serving the food item. A user consumable item image is received and ingredients of the consumable item in the image are identified along with the user’s location using a neural network by determining similar images from a database. A restaurant associated with similar images is chosen with a similarity score and a list of ranked restaurants is provided to the user. The figure below illustrates identifying the consumable items of an image and providing recommendations based on the identified items.
